There are two ways of doing vibrato on a clarinet. The easy way, which is not recommended, is to change your embouchure. If you say "vaw vaw vaw" while your are playing, you will find that the sound vibrates. Unfortunately, this can leave your mouth in a position where you can't reach the high notes. The better way, which takes much more skill, is to vibrate the air stream by rhythmic pulsations of your diaphragm (breathing muscle).

For some reason vibrato is frowned upon for clarinets in the classical world. It's ok to vibrate a violin note, a singer's note or a flute note, but it is considered that clarinet notes should be pure. I say do it if you feel like doing it.

not that i don't recommend vibrato....i don't know......
hmmm.......about how to do it...i think the previous guys did a good job of explaining......yes....clarinet sounds better purely.....

In jazz clarinet vibrato is a MUST. I use it all the time, in jazz that is. Once mastered it is worth while and enhances your tone. To make it simple; if you play jazz use vibrato. If not hold off for a while.

The other way I have been anle to simulate a vibrato other than changing what my diaphragm or mouth are doing is to vibrate my supporting thumb. If you can't get a vibration from your arm's twitch muscles, try this:
With practice this can be controlable and useful---While playing, press your right upper forearm/elbow against your side/hip very hard. Now tense all the muscles in your right arm. It will not be possible to avoid the fine tremmor that developes. This can be translated into virbrator tones and leave your mouth and breathing to do what they are needed for.
