If you have a good music program, you can just change the key signature to be the same as the alto's. Or use the "down a fourth method" Example: the alto's concert C, is an A,and the clarinet's concert C is a D: an A to a D is a fourth. Essentially you have to transpose the each note down four steps.

if you want to play the piece with a piano, then you will have to transpose it, but if not, you could just play it in the key it is, you never said what key signature it was in, I could tell you more percisly if you wanted, but an easy way is to relate it to the piano, say for instance it in in C+ for clairnet, then we know that it will be in concert Bb and therefore in G+ for saxaphone. If you are completely confused, give me an e-mail with the key signature and I can tell you which one it is.

When transposing a tune for example in the key of "C" which numerically holds the valued of "0"; am I to understand that the next note added, would be a "C" sharp or "D" flat?

You can transpos your Bb Clarinet music into Alto Sax music, but writeing your Bb Clarinet music 9 half-steps above in the trebel clef.

Please help! My son is going to be in a musical and they have asked him to play his alto saxophone, but I only have the music written for a piano. Please let me know how to change this or who I could go see. Thanks. Please answer asap, the musical is the beginning of June.

I have Stranger on the Shore written for Bb clarinet in the key of C, accompanied by piano. When my friend and I tried to play together it was not in the same key. I thought it would be easier to transpose the clarinet part. What key should the clarinet be playing in if the piano plays in C?

I need to transpose a melody from A for Flute to other keys including Bb, Eb, F. Should I compare each key to Concert pitch first then adjust other keys accordingly.
What about key signature. Thx Richard

Lori, your clarinet key would be "D" The piano is tuned to "C" If she plays a "C" you would play a "D" to match her!
