I'm not sure about how your Jazz Band does things, but when we were just starting out, we were given a piece of paper that had a piano keyboard drawn on it so we could figure out scales, and how to transpose our music. Most of us found it very helpful. I suggest you try www.looknohands.com, and go into the piano room. You can pick from a number of scales, and you'll be able to see them on a keyboard, on the screen. But remember, it will be in the key of C, since that's what key a piano is in, so you'll have to transpose every note you see up one whole step. HIH!
