An alto and it shouldnt cost a lot. me for example just went ahead and bought my first alto for $1200. I crazy though but you should find one for about $700 dollars. Just make sure all the pads and springs are fine.

Alto Sax. The soprano is smaller, lighter and slightly cheaper, but it is quite difficult to play. It would not be recommended for beginners. The tenor and others are too big and heavy. You're best starting with the alto. I got a decent second-hand one for 400 Euros (about 400 dollars).
