While on holiday in the UK I bought a beautiful six hole ocarina from a little shop there called "Latin Colours."
It's Peruvian I think. Anyway... I've been looking all over online and can only find charts for four holes. :(
Can anyone help?

after reading the description at circle flutes... mine would be concidered an eight holed. Six holes on top, two on the bottom... teardrop shaped.

My daughter just worked out the fingering for her 8-hole Peruvian ocarina, so I've put it on the web. It's at:

what you do, sam, is take regular music, and write it for your ocarina. that's what i do. i took the two hours to learn basic music reading last week, and then i drew a HUGE music scale. instead of writing 'do' next to it, i made that the lowest note that my ocarina was keyed for. and as the notes would go higher, i would draw in the fingering chart in that spot instead. then to write a song, i take regular sheet music, and draw it with my fingering chart notes instead. it takes a lot of space, and looks kinda crude, but it works. good luck

i noticed that no matter which finger i lifted, of any of the eight, i got the same note. maybe that's just my ocarina, dunno. my four hole certainly doesn't do that, each hole sounds different.
anyway
with all of the holes covered you have your lowest note, then take your finger halfway off any hole to get the sharp. then the whole finger off, the (the whole hole exposed) is the next note up, and on and on, two fingers off, three... etc.

No, I just tried that and it sounds more like a minor or blues scale to me. (The chart is off key)

Yeah,I tried that link and it doesn't work. I've got so many songs to play on an ocarina, but no idea how to play them on it. Has someone copied the information, and could you post it, again?

Hi Folks! Sorry that the link I posted in the 2nd posting isn't working any more. I've been away from this site for a few years and have moved my account in the meantime. I've put that ocarina chart back up on the web at:
http://www.iol.ie/~jonmca/Ocarina/ocarina8.gif
Ocarinas are not accurate instruments. If you find this chart doesn't work, you'll have to fiddle around until you find something that works for you.
