I've just bought a saxophone and am learning the fingerings from this site. There is a small "pearl" key called the Bb key between the Left 1st finger key and 2nd finger key. This site says that this is pressed by the left first finger to get a Bb note. Surely this can't be right? Surely it must be the second finger that presses this key? Can some saxophone player please tell me.

Nope it's the left first finger alright. You depress that key and the B key at the same time to make a Bb. If you think about it, it makes playing the Bb a lot easier if you're in a key that has Bb's in its signature.

The key is samll enough for you to depress it, while at the same time, depressing the left hand first finger key. In other words, your finger is halfway on the B key, and halfway on the Bb key. It's an easier way to finger a Bb instead of 1--/1-- or 1--/(side Bb key)

also be aware of the intonation using this fingering as it is an alternate not the primary figering

I took the sax for three years as a young girl and I am trying to get out the old books and remember again, because I remember the basics but I forget all the sharps and flats of each note. What is the site that you are learning from? thank you soo much!
