I bought some oboe reeds recently from a website www.goodtoneguild.com. I actually got them off of an e-bay auction. They are without a doubt the best reeds I have ever played on. Reeds were a constant source of stress for me. I haven't made reeds in 30 years and don't remember the intricacies of it. I tried reeds from three other sites that make handmade reeds. None even compared with these. With these reeds the low notes come out quickly & easily with no squeaking even when playing softly. The reeds respond immediately so that I don't miss entries even when trying to play soft parts. High notes speak easily, they have a wonderful mellow tone and their intonation is great. If finding good reeds has been a problem for you, I encourage you to try this site. I wasn't aware of how well I could play if I had a good reed.

I'm surprised that you were able to find good reeds from someone who wasn't in front of you adjusting them to your playing. It's a rarity, and I haven't found it possible to play on a reed that I didn't adjust myself or have someone adjust for me. Did you scrape/clip/etc. the reed to make that play that well?

No, the person that makes the reeds actually makes the reeds after you give her an idea of what you would like or what you are used to. She is very communicative and also offers full satisfaction or exchange. If you try them let me know what you think.
