Does anyone play the e-flat clarinet? I've been playing the b-flat clarinet for 6 years and now I want to try something new. I just want to know what you think of the e-flat clarinet if you play it. Thanx!

are you talking about e-flat soprano clarinet or e-flat alto clarinet??? e-flat soprano clarinet is pitched a half-octave above above b-flat soprano, and if you play clarinet for band, it may be difficult to find music written for it. i would not recommend playing that clarinet. e-flat alto, on the other hand, has music written for it. it is pitch a half-octave below b-flat soprano, and is curved. it almost looks like a mini bass clarinet. that would be neat to play because not many people play it, and it has a distict shape.

well in most military,march, and higher level music, there is parts for Eb soprano clarinet. As far as differences, you'll be playing music more in a flute's range, you'll have to use your ear VERY carefully because Eb's are known for being quite out of tune. Otherwise I would say it is a very good idea, to get that high clarinet sound, and that the sound actually be good! If you were referring to an Eb Alto,then it is basically a bass clarinet, but pitched up a fourth. Alto clarinet aren't as common, and the parts written for them are usually just a "copy and paste" from a different part, like the euphonium or the tenor sax. Solos are usually non-existant,unless it does a "soli" with another instrument. Well that's all folks!

I assume you mean the Eb soprano since that's what most people mean when they say that. "Eeffers" are pretty cool, as long as they're played in tune as saxyboy said. As for the Eb alto, well... there are only a few instruments that I really don't like, and that would be one of them. I just don't like the tone quality of the instrument, and it never seems to be able to project. But that's just my opinion.

well, the e-flat alto clarinet is good in concert style rather than marching style. not a lot of people know how to play e-flat alto clarinet the right way to get a certain sound. there is absolutely nothing wrong with the instrument. it is not used much, but when it is used, then you will be amazed at how much powerful this instrument can have during concert. trust me!

well, i play the Bb clarinet for 6 years too, just this year i wanted to try something new and play the Eb clarinet as well! I heard the Eb alto is much harder to play but played right makes a wonderful sound. Personally, I'm playing the Eb saprano, it's a really kool instrument with a really nice sound. The saprano is like a baby clarinet, everything is smaller by a few inches, and the alto is a baby bass clarinet.

I've been playing my Eb clarinet for many years. It's a tough axe to play properly--i.e., in tune. I think most players bite the mouthpiece because they don't have a good enough embouchure.
I've played my Eb (Buffet) in Symphonic and OomPah bands and I find that the hardest thing to do is blend with the piccolo. Makes a nice change. I also have 2 Bb clts(Selmer) and a bass (LeBlanc), all boss horns, especially the bass.

i have been playing the b-flat clarinet sence 5th grade and i love it but i want to play the baby clarinet . i played the bass this past year and i wanted too know if it is hardeer or easyer to plat the eb clarinet?

i've been playing the Bb clarinet for a coulpe of years now, currently i'm learning how to play the saxophone i would also like to learn how to play the alto clarinet. someone once told me that the alto clarinet fingering is between that of a sax and a Bb clarinet. is that true?
