I have a problem with the sound of the "throat tones", that
is, the Bb and A between Chalumeau and Clarino register.
As I come down through the clarino register I get a
beautiful clear sound. As I switch to the throat tones,
I get a muffled out of tune sound.
If I go up from the lower notes of the chalumeau register
to the same notes, I don't have a problem.
This is obviously a case of faulty embouchure, but what
do I do to correct it?

Ive always found that if u cover the top hole of ur left hand with your right 1st finger it sometimes helps, and try it out but sometimes (dependant on the clarinet) u can get away with covering all the right hand holes jst test it 2 c how it sounds. For ombiture perhaps try a new reed, or a different strength of reed, I would never use a rico reed for instance because of the problem. another thing to try is to smile when hitting the notes as it sharpens them slightly, hope something here works if u want more ideas (because I could go on forever)just e-mail me (mhairi_y@yahoo.co.uk)
