I just started playing clarinet. Can any experienced clarinet players give me some tips to help me progress. Where exactly is the "break" that I have heard so much about? Thanks

The "break" is when you go from one octave to another, like from open G to six and one C. That would be a break.
Remember NOT to puff your cheeks (I did at first but it's been three years lol.) Practice EVERY day, and if you get frustrated, keeeeepppp practicing. If you want, you can buy the music book called "Standard of Excellence" by Bruce Pearson. In the back there is a fingering chart and you have scales, songs, and tonguing excersises. The book in red is the easiest, then blue, and then green. Good luck!

On the clarinet, the break is the gap between the top of the lower register (chalumeau) and the bottom of the upper register (clarino or clarion). This happens just above the note B flat. B flat is played with all holes open and the Register Key and A Key pressed. The next note up requires all the holes closed and the Register Key pressed. The resistance of the clarinet changes at this point, so you have to increase breath pressure and move all those fingers at the same time. This is difficult to do, so it is a challenge for beginners.

first of all can u play a clarinet, u start in major scale smoothly and very hard from G to C# and Fb to Cb major and then u play cromatic scale very hard.thanks
