How important is the full right hand index finger for playing the bassoon? I've half a pad and no fingernail or half the tip under the nail.The pad is enough to work with. I truly love the bassoon and don't really desire to play publicly.. Thank you.

Let me get this straight- is the hole larger than the index finger, you can only reach the index finger halfway across the hole, or what?
