I just started to play soprano sax a month ago, and pretty much have all the notes down, but when I press the octave key, everything I play sounds stuffy. Any suggestions? By the way, I play on 3 or 3.5 rico's.

Seeing the reeds you are using, it may be the reeds. Rico doesn't make really good quality reeds. This may or may not be the problem. Also try changing the placement of the reed on the mouthpiece. That is what I have to do to get rid of the airy sounds I sometimes get playing. This is pretty much all I can think of to help. Keep practicing and always have fun.

You might want to soak your reeds before you play in a cup of warm water. I play the clarinet, the sop. sax,and starting the oboe. When I first started the sop. sax I sounded stuffy too, but after several months I began to improve.
