What do you guys think of a program called "Finale"? It's a music notation program, and I was considering using it. Is it any good

Finale is good, but takes some time to learn. A much easier (and SOMEwhat better, in my mind) program is Noteworthy Composer. Very easy to use. It lacks some advanced notation techniques (quintuplets, sextuplets, etc., staccatissimo, etc) but is very easy to understand and navigate.

Finale is very expensive also. For what most hobbyists want to do, Noteworthy Composer is quite adequate.
Also Finale makes two other versions: Finale PrintMusic! (inexpensive introductory level) and Finale Allegro (mid price intermediate level). I would say that Finale PrintMusic! is the better buy as there simply aren't enough additional features in Allegro to justify it's price.

Is it true that it costs $600? I could pay that for an instrument. I downloaded the demo, looks nice. But hell, I wouldn't buy it. Unless I had $$$.

Finale has a huge learning curve. The sound it produces is not worth the trouble, tha is, if you are looking for a Rock Music sound. For classical music it works good, not great. There isn't much versitility in the interpitation that the menu system offers.
