Hi.
I was given an arabic flute this week as a gift and I now need to learn how to play it. It is called either a Nay or a Nai, depending on the geographic region.
What I need is a fingering chart and a few tips on ombature. I can play the conventional flute so I'm confident I can get this to work with a push in the right direction.

this will help you, even though it is a turkish page, but I think they are really similar the arabic ney and the turkish one.

The aim is to direct a focused stream of air downward (into the pipe) by hitting the sharp inner edge of the Nay's rim (called the başpare in Turkish-style Nays, or just the rim).

The Arabic Nay (or Nai) is a six‑hole end‑blown flute that requires a unique embouchure: instead of a lip plate like the Western flute, you blow across the open rim at a diagonal angle with a small, relaxed aperture. Fingering charts for the D‑Nay are widely available and show how covering or shading holes produces both standard notes and Arabic quarter tones. To start, practice long tones to stabilize breath and pitch, experiment with slight angle changes for sound control, and listen to maqam recordings to internalize the scales.
