I wanted to play my school's contra also. I play Bari sax and after bugging my band conductor he finnaly got the old contra down from the closet it had been sitting in for years. There shouldn't be any difference between bass and contrabass clarinet, it depends if your contrabass is a BBb or EEb contra (also called Contra Alto). Either way they have the same fingerings, just that the EEb contra is in a different key.

i was just writing to say that i play the contrabass/contralto and it does have interesting parts...not just bum bum bum. threaten your band teacher that you will quit unless he/she lets you play it, it worked for me! Good luck!
