My husband bought me a clarinet of e-bay. Now I have it I have been looking at other ones on the Internet. Mine is a Bb clarinet from a factory in India. I have noticed some keys are different from others. The top tree holes don't have metal rings around them, and after the bottom three holes they are two sticking out keys, on other ones they are four. Does this sound like a normal Bb clarinet?
thanks Amy

No it does't sound like a normal clarinet compared to my Bb clarinet. In my opinion, you should return the instrument because it is missing a lot of elements. For example, not having the four keys at the bottom will keep you from playing some notes.

I don't play clarinet, but I think you may have one that is using the Albert fingering system (commonly referred to as German). There should be fingering charts available on this site for that system.

The ones you describe are very cheap instruments. Unfortunately they are a waste of money as they are made of low quality materials that won't hold up for more than a few months.
The fingering system is not what is used today. It is an Albert system or even the simpler Mueller system. Fingering charts are on the net.
It would be a much better idea to return this and get a standard instrument. A decent one will definitely cost more than what he spent unfortunately.

I play the Clarinet and that doesn't sound like a Bb clarinet. You should take to the music store like Tom Lees or Long Maquade. They will check the insturment over for you to see if there is any pads missing. Or they know better about the clarnet that you have.
I think a answer all the question for you i play the clarinet over 3 years know so i know what your talking about. Bye

Dee, you're so mean.. India isn't just a cheap contry u know.. Anyway it wldn't be a waste of time learning that instrument. It sounds unique. If you can find a fingering chart for this cl, you shld really learn it. But if you want a standard cl, go to a music store and check out the prices, or you cld buy it off ebay again.
