i play the bassoon, but i use the school's. i need to know if it's okay to clean the inside just by dumping it in water and rinsing it out. of course, after i would carefully dry the key pads and apply cork grease and oil and what not, but i need to know if cleaning it like this is okay for the key pads. my teacher's on vacation, so can't ask him for another couple of weeks...

NEVER!!!! there are other meethods to cllean an instrument...and if you have a doubt...dont do it

Key pads and water do not mix! Never expose a pad to water like that. You WILL ruin the pad or pads and have to have them replaced. That can be quite expensive. You can also do damage to the mechanisms that control the opening and closing of the keys. This damage may not be apparent right away, but it will show up and will also be costly to repair. Most schools have agreements with local repair shops and I'm sure once your teacher returns, arrangements could be made to get the Basson cleaned.

NO YOU SHOULD NOT PUT IT IN WATER THAT WOULD CAUSE IT TO RUST.WHEN IT RUST THE INSTRUMENT WOULD BE DINGY AND HARD TO PLAY.SOON YOU WOULD PROBABLY NEED A NEW ONE.

the only instrumets ment to be put in water is brass instruments. NEVER A WOODWIND!!!!!!!!!!!
