My flute (Armstrong) a Yamaha flute is very different from the other flute in my 8th grade band, 1st of all it litterally booms above all the other flute and 2nd it sounds exactly like a Saxophone, hence my user name.
(I actually did a duet with a sax player)
Do I have a different type of flute? Because no matter how I play it, it can't sound like a flute even on the high notes. (which is what I actually prefer)

Well, not everyone sounds the same. As for the higher notes, you should have no problem with it if you are using a Yamaha flute. I use a Yamaha flute too and the high notes are really easy to sound out and very sweet and bright.
Try listening to a different variety of flute recordings to get some idea on a basic flute tone and different kinds of tone. Did you say you sound like a saxaphone instead of a flute?

My first flute was and Armstrong that I rented last year and it's strongest note was F and had a really bad lower register but an rich higher register.
This Flute has a really strong lower register but weaker higher. And the strongest notes for this flute are High D
(Fingering: -23|123|--_)and, strangly enough for a flute, Middle C (123|123|-0o), the lowest note my flute can play ( I don't have a B foot)

Don't worry, I don't have a b-foot either. Strangely my Yamaha has a stronger high register compare to the lower registers. My low notes are not weak, just that they are not as projecting and powerful as my high notes.

My flute is awesome though, and a never use the high notes anyway because my band teacher is giving my all the Oboe and Basson parts for our music

My computer is down at the moment and I'm using my mom's laptop. I got your audio files but apparently they are too big, I can only listen to them when I get my computer back from repair which should about tomorrow or the day after. So I will have to get back to you then.
Your band teacher give you the oboe and bassoon parts to play?! Why? Don't you have a oboist or a bassonist to do that? Does that mean that there is no one playing the flute?

I just moved to the Oregon coast this summer and my new schoold has a PUNY band, so only 40% of my band parts are flute parts, and we have no bassoon or Oboe, so My teacher usually just give substitution parts; she gives the Soprano Sax the Clairenet parts sometimes ( Our clairenet are to soft) And the 6th grade was so desparate they are using a violin as an Oboe. but I'm happy with my parts because my flute can't go that high up with out squeaking. I usually Play the flute parts an octave lower than what's written.
We also have Ensembles for our instruments. And I usually play on the Bass and Tenor parts. It would really help to have an Alto or Bass Flute!
(There are four of five Flutes in the 8th grade band and two have Piccolos.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, just got my computer back from the workshop.
Anyway, I heard your recording and there are a few things that I can say. 1) I think you are standing too close to the mic, 2) You have some problems with your embouchure, 3) You have problems with your air direction, 4) Please tongue clearly.
I think that No.2 and 3 are what maybe the cause of your tone sounding like a saxaphone. Your air stream should be directed across the hole on your headjoint, from what I can here is that your airstream is directed a bit too downward. And as for your embouchure, try to imagine a shape of a tall oval instead of a flat oval. Hope this helps.

It's probably just the cheap mike I have.
I actually am playing with correct Embrochure.
I recently notice that my lip plate is more raised and roundish than everyone elses flute.

Well, maybe it is. I suggest you look for a real flute teacher and have a class or two with him. Maybe specifying that you want him to check on a few things, it helps

Well looks like my winter concert is almost here.
I heard something about mouthpieces on the internet on a flute site , and that higher walled mouthpieces are more powerful.
My flute was bought "slightly used" ( as opposed to "New" of "Used") Because the last owners only had it for a few days

High walled does not actually mean more powerful. A more accurate explanation would be that a flute with higher wall would offer more resistance compare to a flute that has a lower wall. Flute players who use a very high airspeed or a lot of force in their playing would benefit more from a flute with a higer wall as it give them something to work with.
