How is the ideal saxophone tone achieved? I know this could be answered many ways, but what is your opinion?

Hi, First off, it depends on the sax that you are playing. They all sound different, and they all have different tones.
But the way I learned to achieve a sax tone, was before learning all the fingerings for the sax, just practice everyday blowing in to the mouthpiece. Once you get the hang of that, then you can practice putting the mouthpiece on the sax and practice your tuning. That is how I did it, and I have been playing sax for 6 years, and taught many people the sax. I hope this helpful!
GOOD LUCK, Tim

hi, the reed is the most important part of playing the sax, so finding good reeds is the endless search every sax player goes through. Second to that long tones help to develop a strong embechure and good tone quality...long tones are played throughout the range of the instrument everyday, holding each note 8 beats at 60 on a metronome..of course you need to have the correct embechure first. But long tones are the necessary tool, ask any pro..they do em every day.
