1. Plenty of practice playing long notes.

2. Don't use too hard a reed. Don't consider anything harder than 2.5 unless you can play all the notes up to the C above the stave.

3. If you are using the "stock mouthpiece" that came with your clarinet, consider buying a better one. The Vandoren B45, for example, is a middle-of-the-road mouthpiece which will do wonders for your tone. There are many other mouthpieces that will do the same.

Also listen to players whose tone you admire. What goes in comes out eventually.

i have played clarinet for a while now and from my experiance the read and mouthpiece don't matter as much as just practicing to get the perfect obasure, but nice reads and a higher quality mouthpiece can help.

me & my clarinet always have a dead tone. I don;t know how to help ourselves improve or tones. We could not buy better reeds nor mouth pieces. other than playing long tones and listening to nice tones. Is there any other way that can help??
