I've been playing the flute for the past 3 years.. but have yet to get my ideal tone... now i'm starting to wonder whether i'm heading the right direction to good tone production....

So how do u define what a good tone is..

good tone is hard to describe in words. And given that you are posting, i guess you can't tell. Don't worry, i couldn't either at first. If you get a teacher, they'll help you out. Otherwise, what you want is a steady tone. You don't want it to wobble and you want to be able to hold it at that one tonality for at least a minute. That's basically what adjudicators listen for. If you can do this and it still sounds like crap, it could just be the quality of your instrument. Also, remember to breathe by pushing your stomach out, not lifting your shoulders
