I have been playing a alto saxaphone for about a year now.I am interested in playing a soprano. How soon could I start considering on learning to play a soprano?

play for a little bit longer. make sure you understand fingerings and tuning. soprano saxs like to be sharp, and adjusting wiht your embouchure is difficult. on an alto sax, you can raise or lower your jaw for key notes that naturally go flat or sharp. on soprano, much smaller adjustments should be made. you can start now, but there is not a lot of music printed for soprano sax. there is a much much larger variety for alto. and soprnao saxs are used more now for jazz bands. there are the odd piece written for soprano. maybe try doubling on soprano, so you can do alto for concert/school band, and jazz band? hope this helps.

I know how you feel, I play the Flute and want to play a piccolo, too. Except, I've been playing for two and a half years. If you play well, and think your ready, go for it! If you are really uncertain, you should ask your band instructor!

One year isn't enough. Try a couple years later once you have everything you could learn in music down.:)
