 G metal Clarinet, information wanted
Author: Leif

I have just borrowed a g metal made in Turkey, and I plan to learn playing a clarinet. Can anyone give me any information on this kind of instrument? Internet?
I am a skilled violinist, but I'm a beginner on clarinet but want to play Klezmer, balkan and so forth on clarinet in stead of violin.
I also plan to go to Turkey to buy a G klarinet in Istanbul. Does anyone have any experience from buying/selling G clarinets?

I play oud and G clarinet professionally and have 30 years of experience with G clarinets. The best metal clarinet made in Turkey is by Kor from the city of Bursa. Saffet and Kondirali both played Kors. Any clarinet you get from Turkey will need some work if not a great deal of work right away. My kor was picked out for me by Saffet and it still needed work when I got it. I think that they're around $500-600 now.
Amati makes a very nice wooden G clarinet. You can get them for around $1100. When I got mine it needed no work and played quite well right away.
Kleinschmidt in Austria make a beautiful instrument but I had to have mine completely overhauled to have it play perfectly. It's a great instrument but I think they're about $2000-2500 now.
Souren Baronian the great Armenian clarinet player has a clarinet made in Italy that he loves, but I think that he could play a popsicle stick and it would sound great.
