I'm auditioning for jazz band tomorrow and for our audition, we have to improvise. I got the music but i'm completely lost! it has lots of symbols like E(triangle) and F7sus. can someone please explain to me how i would go about improvising???

these are chord markings. i'm not sure what the triangle represents as i've never seen it, but i'm assuming it's an E minor chord. everytime you see these letters over a solo, that is the best scale set to use that will sound good with the piano/guitar/bass. those who play guitar understand all the chords a little better then the rest of us. and how to improvise with these? it depends on what the style of the piece is. as it's funk, latin, swing, etc, need a different style to improvise. try and follow a similar rythme pattern that the piece is written in. hope this helps.
