i play the clarinet and the alto sax. i can hold notes on the clarinet for quite a while with out running out of air but when i swich to the alto i seem to be struggling just to hold the note for a few bars is this normal? How do i make it so i can hold nots on the alto as long as i can on the clarinet? thanks

The Saxophone is a bigger instrument and the mouth piece and reed is also bigger which means it takes more air to play. But it is possible to conserve some air by "covering" notes, such as a C, by holding down the right hand for a D it helps cover the sound and help little in conserving air.
