Hello... I'm an Alto Saxophone player and currently I have been trying to purchase an alto saxophone since this year I will graduate from High School therefore will no longer be able to play a school instrument. I have been playing Alto Saxophone for about 6 years and since I plan to continue playing in college, my Band director adviced me to purchase an intermediate to advance model saxophone.
Right now I found several saxophones that I am interested in but I am uncertain about the brand of the instruments.
The brands offered by my local music store (intermediate and professional instruments) are:
Selmer
Yamaha
Jupiter
and Medusa
the first three I am a little familiar with since most of the instruments in the school are from these manufacturers but the last brand is the one I'm most comfortable with (I feel more comfortable when playing it since I tried it in the music store). Could any one give me a description of each of the manufacturer brands to make the right choice?
Thanks in Advance,
Sincerely, Theodore Rhea

First of all if you have been playing for six years you are familiar enough with playing that you can invest in a professional model. There is a brand called "Cannonball".It is an excellent brand but not as expensive as say "Selmer", but still almost just as good. You might want to check "Cannonball out.

Thank you very much Joseph! I have already sent an e-mail to find out the closest Cannonball Saxophone dealer. I have another question now... I found this instrument on the internet but it just sounds too good to be true..:

can anyone give me feedback on that?

first of all i recomend you try a wide range of different instruments in either a class setting or whatever setting you may be playing in. I have found that YAmaha custom saxes are my favorite and a lot of the time not to bad on price if you look hard enough. dont only look at stores go to internet and look around and find some free trial things and stuff like that. I got real lucky when i bought my saxophone. My sax was a 3000$ sax and i just happened to run across a local music store that had it and had it for to long and they just happened to bring it down to about 1300$ so i got it at a steal. best sax i ever bought to. i would also recomend jupitrer saxes. especially if you know your way around a sax well enough. these saxes will do you good. HOPE THIS HELPS.
Musically yours,
Jon

Thank you Jon, right now I've trying different saxes, Jupiter, Selmer, Yamaha, Olds, and many other... I really enjoyed playing Selmer but the price range is $3500 and as a High School student I can't afford that, I've been looking around in my local music stores and the best prices for Selmer are the student models but they don't serve me any good if I am an experienced player. I hope I'll find something soon. Thank you!
