 All State Auditions
Author: Amanda

I need help! This Saturday I am auditioning for the middle school all state band and I'm really nervous. I have to play 6 scales, a chromatic scale, a solo, and a sightreading piece. Does anyone have any advice on what I should be focusing on the most and what the judges will be looking for?
Thx
Amanda

The most important thing is TONE. If you have a beautiful sound then a few missed notes here and there will be overlooked. Also pay close attention to the dynamics and phrasing of your solo piece/sightreading and add some of your own phrasing (keeping the mood and context of the piece in mind). At the Allstate level, they want players who can play music, not just notes. Lastly, know your scales down perfectly and make them as musical as possible. The judge can get a good idea of how you play by just hearing a single scale.

Good luck to you, playing in an Allstate band is a truly memorable experience.
