Hello,
I desperately want to learn to make my own reeds. I`m shopping around for supplies and have come across several types of reed knifes like double hollow ground (offered in soft, hard and medium) and beveled. I`m also confused about which brand to buy. Can someone give me an idea on what type to purchase and why? I`m not looking for something reliable not fancy. Thank-you

Who is going to teach you reedmaking? I tried to teach myself by reading books and it was a VERY BAD IDEA (at least for me). There's no substitute for hands-on experience, but a teacher can advise you on what equipment to buy and get you off to a good start. Trust me on this, I know from sad experience.

I wasn't planning on teaching myself. I will attend a hands-on workshop in the near future and wanted to purchase the proper supplies now. I got in touch with a professional oboist and she advised me to buy a Vitry or Herder reed knife and the for now, the cheapest cane available. Thx for your help RCJ
