Hiya, I have decided to take up the bassoon, but then a bassoon teacher told my clarinet teacher that going from a single reed instrument to a double is too hard, (i was pissed off as it took me ages to decide that i wanted to play it). so i'll ask u guys, is it really hard? Plz help me..... again! lol!

ive always been told that basson was hard to learn but that it was really worth it to learn...so it could be hard... go to it with a positive attitude and you'll only learn as much as you want to

I played flute and saxophone before bassoon and I know a bunch of other people who have as well. I know more clarinet players that became bassoon players than sax player too!
You can do it. Double reeds are hard to deal with, no way around it. Be positive and play loud. Besides at least you're coming from clarinet to bassoon and not trumpet or something!
I hope this helps.

i play bassoon too, so i can understand what you mean. well...for one thing clarinet and bassoon both use vicegrip embouchures...it might be difficult, but it'll be worth the effort and all that. don't give up! bassoon is a wonderful instrument! ^^

my friend plays the clarinet and tenorsax..he just recently switch to bassoon for symphonic band and said its hard...then he gave me the reedand i seen it was double in about 20 i had a noise out of it and i learned to play his bassoon pretty quick...also if you didn't know to get on the higher octave you need to blow more air:)
