 cork on oboe
Author: mls

Today I was taking apart my oboe to put it back in its case, and the cork on the head joint just fell off. There was a big split in it, so there was nothing I could have done to save it. Did anyone else ever have this problem? Do they sell extra corks, or should that just be sent to be repaired? And my band director asked me if I thought this would be safe, because he doesn't play oboe, but would it be okay to put masking tape over the area where the cork was? Just to hold it together so I can still practice until I can do anything else with it? Thanks for your help!

You can just bring it to a music store to have it replaced. My cork has never fallen off. But one time it was loose enough to twirl around and so I had to put my oboe together really slowly and stuff so that I could get the cork in the right place.
But, you can definately get it replaced at a music shop and it won't cost very much at all.
