Hey, I was just wondering... On average, how long to you practice a day on your primary instrument? (And be honest.) I also want to observe if there is anything that could factor your individual practice time, such as your years of experience or just your commitment and the flexibility of your schedule. Thanks! =D

well its hard for me to practice everyday(i have school work, i help my brother who has just started band)
i practice about 5 days a week and for about half an hour to an hour.
ive been playing clarinet for about 3 and a half years

im 15 years old and i have 4 siblings (ages 7, 10, 12, and 15(adopted sister))
my parents dont like me practicing in the house if everyone is inside so i practice on my balcony.
i usually have a full schedule so that squeezes out more practice time (i have a lot of hobbies)

thanks for taking intrest

basically i try 2 hours per day.......but sometimes its just too busy for me to do so......when i am free, i will practise until i feel tired....which is a general rule...
coz once you cannot concentrate....there is no reason to continue......

When I was at school I played for about 2 hours a day - that included lessonsn, band & orchestra rehearsal as well as individual practice. Now I have to work (the curse of the musical classes), I aim for 30 mins a day. Unfortunately, most days I don't even manage that.

This is my first post here...just ran across you today.

Practiced for hours every day back in the late 60's, early 70's. Put the sax down until mid 80's. Picked it back up and found I had to practice several hours per week to get my chops back in shape (started back on the alto). Now, I double on alto and tenor and only practice when our band gets together or when the worship team at church has practice. Age old problem I guess...love to play, hate to practice.

For the sax players on this forum -- if you don't know about the site, www.saxontheweb.net, you should give it a look. They also have a new clainet forum, but I haven't been there. There's a great international family here with much experience and instructional wisdom.

Thanks for providing this forum.

I play for about 3 - 5 hours everyday, though my individual practice is typically about 1 hour a day, and not everyday. I don't practice very often when I'm on breaks. I have a ton of work because I'm in music school, so practicing isn't the only thing I do.

The people on this forum are, obviousely, very enthusiastic about music, renduring this survey, unfortunately, invalid.

I practice about a minimum of about 2.5 hours a day, on my prime instrument, bassoon.

I try to practice an hour a day because I really want to excel. I'm one of 24 flutes in my school, so I'm lucky to be a freshman and one of the 10 in the symphonic band!! I practice hard to keep my spot and try to fit it in, even when I have essays, homework, and chores.
