Our freshman year the band director forced us all to switch to Vandoren from Rico, Rico being a beginner's reed. I miss the taste though. They were so fun to chew on. On clarinet, I went from regualrs to a 3 v12, and I loved it. On bass clarinet, I can only paly on vandorens because they haven't made an equivalent of the v12 for the bass yet. I'm starting to be let down by vandoren because I miss the thicker reeds but won't play on a foru or five. Any ides of which brand I could switch to that has a little more consistancy throughout a box and is a little more integral about sound? I heard of a brand that comes from morrocco, but I can' remeber the name. any ideas of any other brands?

Most people typically do play on Vandorens. I'm not sure what else there is for bass clarinet. All the professional players I ever met only used Vandoren, and that's what I use too. Why don't you try stepping up to a 3.5? If you break your reeds in well (using water to soak them, playing on them only 5 - 10 minutes at a time when they're new, playing on them only every other day always, etc.), you should get much more consistency out of a box.
