On my metronome.. Allegro is about 120-168.

The word allegro actually means "lively." If the piece sounds lively you are doing it right. If it sounds like it's dragging or rushing, you are doing it wrong.

The actual tempo will be different from piece to piece depending on how the composer wrote it. If it is all quarter notes, then quarter note = 168 will probably be too slow. If it is all 16th notes, then quarter note=120 might be too fast.

Of course if you are working on a band piece, it's whatever tempo the conductor sets or tells you that he will set in the future as the band learns the piece.

the speed of allegro is basically..1-2-3-4...count this to the beet of one of todays music(rap, etc.)
