 Bass Clarinet help!

Alas, I am ashamed. I have been playing for about 5 years now and I have run into a note that I don't know and can't find anywhere! I don't think it exists on my instrument, but am unsure. I believe it is an incredibly low D. lower than that oh so low Eb! I'd hate to have to take it up an octave, but am unsure of what to do. If anyone knows if this note even exists on bass then let me know! it is like . . . four below. I don't know if I have the keys to play it or not because I've never seen it before and I'm subbing for Celo. Anyone care to help?

Some bass clarinets go down to C (written, not concert) below middle C. Some basses only go down to Eb. Your options are: Take it up an octave; leave it out; buy, hire, beg, borrow or steal a low C bass, or shove a cardboard tube in the end.

PS this is experience, not a joke: How do you confuse a bass clarinet player? Write that oh so low Eb as D#!

My friend plays the alto (freak, I know...) and he mysteriously discover his low D key when he bought it. It's similar to some saxophones not having a high f#. Put your foot in the bell; that works for recorder.

I just switched from clarinet to bass clarinet last year and I noticed an extra key. The Eb key! So you probably dont have the key... So as Mike said you need to buy, rent, steal or something to get a bass clarinet that has the Eb key.

That note does exist! The only thing I could find about it was that there is an incredibly low d sharp and if there is a d sharp there has to be a d down below that e flat because as i said there is a d sharp! Ask your band director! ~Bass Clarinet Babe~

P.S. I hope this helps!
