Hello
Stupid question I know, anyway. I have just got my first clarinet. I carefuly put a new Yamahar 4c mouth piece on it (with some difficulty) and was able to take it off again. Later in the day I wanted to play my clarinet again, so I used the cork grease and it went on easily. The problem I have now is that I cannot get it off again from the section which attaches the mouth piece to the clarinet body. Any Ideas??
the lady in the music shop said that it was the correct mouth piece for my Bb Clarinet.

Putting it on the first time was difficult? That's a bad sign. Your cork may have expanded at some point and may need to be replaced. The best advice I can give is to pull and twist; nothing on that piece should be able to break very easily. If you can fit a knife or something like it in the space between the mouthpiece and body you might be able to loosen it, too.

Artemis: I play the oboe, but i have a friend hoo plays the clarinet, hers gets stuck all the time. If you just take the reed out of the mouthpeice, it will have less weight, and than should pull out..

If none of that works, bring it by a repair shop, I'm sure they can get it and most likely without causing damage to the instrument. I don't think sticking a knife in it would be all that good of an idea b/c you could mess up your clarinet.

The cork may not need replacing. New mouthpieces, and my newly re-corked one, tend to fit tightly. Be sure to put on cork grease EVERY time.
Hopefully by the time you read this, you have achieved succussful separation.

I feel such a dope! lol, I used cork grease and it was a new mouthpiece. I havent managed to get it free yet, but im going to take it to a repair shop soon. So wish me luck!

I recently went on tour with my wind band to Prague where it was baking hot and one of the clarinettist's cork expanded in the heat after a concert, and she had to take it back to the hotel to cool it down before taking it apart.
