Pretty much any instrument by yamaha is quality. I have an alto sax by them and it still works real good.

Well, I have two bari's at home, a Selmer super 80, and a Yanagisawa thats about 21 years old. I would refuse to play anything that wasn't Yanagisawa now. The keywork is exquisite, the action like sweet butter, indented keys feel so comfortable, the low A key is in the right place, and is a very resilient, and tough horn. The Selmer on the other hand has been broken a thousand times, not through lack of care! The table keys are far too difficult to fix, and the pads are always off centre. The low A key is positioned where one's knuckle would be, therefor stretching the thumb to get it-very nasty! It does however have a nicer tone for playing especially jazz/funk pieces. I find the Yamaha brand of saxes (especially Bari's) are very reliable. They are cheap enough to buy, and make a good all round sax, but if you are prepared to spend a little more on a sax(which would be a good idea-never skimp on a Bari), then definately go for a Yanagisawa (especially with a Eugene Rousseau jazz model mouthpiece) and fall in love!

well, the best alto is Armstrong. I don't ride saxophones, so the Yamaha is not quite the best out there. And, 100 years from now, the Armstrong would probably be worth more than a Motor-sax, you know.
