I play the tenor saxophone in marching band. My school is starting a marching band that hasnt existed for about 10 years... so we are rebuilding what we had. Right now we has a concert band on the field. My band director wants me to play tuba next year for marching season, but I am already a good tenor saxophonist. what do i do????

Send your band director a dead fish wrapped in a note that says, "Much like this dead fish, I can't play tuba."

play tenor or concert, and Tuba for marching. Tuba is a great instrument for marching. you build a lot of strength and indurance. It will also help you with breathing for tenor. just try it. it'll be fun.

Well, do you want to switch? Noting that there's very little that translates as far as technique from Saxophone to any brass instrument.

man i play the tenor sax too and don't get me wrong i love it but... if you're band is just know beginnig this whole marching band thing switch to tuba. the music is not hard to read but it will take getting usto. Tuba is the whole essance of the band (like all brass insturments)for you to switch to tuba would create a base fro the band and would probably make everyone in the band more secure with playing. I say this because i switched to tenor my sophmore year and also learned to play trombone the trombone you must be powerful and loud. My ability to play loud encouraged the other members of my pep band to be louf.

you should not change your instrument, make your band director understand that sax is what you like, not tuba.
