 Help me...piccolo

I play clarinet as my main instrument for about 5 years, and i have been playing flute a couple years. though not very good. i can play about one octave. I got a piccolo for 50 dollars, and i can get some notes out, though some others i have trouble with. the piccolo is almost new and was donated. i bought it at a silent auction. anyways, i was wondering if anyone could give me any hints and or whatnot about how to play better andlearn how to get the high notes. if i go up slow, i can get them, but if i try to increase my pace, it doesnt really come out. if anyone could help i would really appreciate it..

Ok.. when you are playing Piccolo always remember that you have to have a very tight embroshure.. even tighter than the flute.. The Piccolo doesn't require as much air as the flute does. You have to really pay attention to fast air and the way that you're lip is positioned. Also, when playing Piccolo it is always good to use a tuner.. because of the intonation issues faced with the piccolo.Practice long tones slowly and carefully and you should be fine. I don't know if you have a metal one.. but in my opinion the metal ones are too bright and they have serious issues with intonation other than the wood ones or plastic ones.. if you are serious about piccolo.. invest in a wood one.. they give the best sound... I hope this helps

50 dollars, eh? Wow...
Anyway, as a flute player for 5 years, and a picc player for 1, I might be able to give a little advice on piccolo. Don't pinch too tightly when trying to get higher notes, don't like tense up. Just keep your lips positioned right and use faster air, not harder air, to get the note out. Picc's a pretty hard instrument at first, but it's fun once you get the hang of it. What notes are you having trouble getting?
