Go to a store that will let you try them out in the shop. If this fails, Woodwind (wwbw) will let you order several mouthpieces for a trial period, then send back the ones you don't like. Not all good mouthpieces will fit you- trying out alot is a must. Also talk to teachers and fellow alto players.

For some, it's a lifetime of searching.

Now, you mentioned nothing about what you were trying to accomplish with a mouthpiece change. The Saxophone Mouthpiece market is a vast cornicopia of decisions to be made. There are specialized mouthpieces intended for a certain style of playing or to give you a certain sound. The choices are nearly endless.

Not many horns, expecially student instruments, actually come with very good mouthpieces. I would suggest getting *something* better. Most educators might push you towards a Selmer S80 C* as the default suggestion. It's a nice piece I think, but it's up to you, really. I think the S80 is a poor jazz piece on alto as it doesn't project very well for most people. I would suggest a Runyon 88 in your case.

Ryan

In other worders, go to a store with a large selection and try several mpc's out and the go from there. I would personally suggest the Meyers,Otto Links and Selmers in (HR)hard rubber, SR Tech/ in Poly. and the any Selmer in metal, it just depends on how you play.

Good Luck Friend
