 Upcoming Auditions

I have a clarinet audition next week. I know that I can do well but when the time comes I always get horribly nervous. This affects my playing and makes me feel bad afterwards. So what I am asking is do you have any tips or tricks to calm yourself down? I'd appreciate it!

nervousness is aweful. what bands do is scales and run through bits and pieces of their repertoire. you can do the same, it gets out the nervous air. also they troubling hurry up and wait. don't get to your audition too early. get there up to a half hour early. anymore and nervousness sets in while you sit and do nothing. for when you are up on the stage, or area, take a couple big breaths. they help to calm you down. hope this helps.

if you eat a banana before you play that helps nervousness.. just be sure to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth out before you play. stay focused and have fun with it..be confident.. that always helps with nervousness.

I hope this helps

It also helps to REALLY know your piece. If you can play almost the entire piece without even looking at the music then you know it, and you know you can do it. This helps build confidence and alleviates nervousness. Flute 1, does that banana thing really work? i've never heard of it but i'd love to try lol.

Bananas actually are supposed to calm you down, but DON'T BRUSH YOUR TEETH AFTER. At least not with toothpaste. . . This will actually DRY your mouth out, which as everyone knows, is not a good thing. rinse your mouth with water.

hey
don't think of it as an adition just think of it as practice. make it fun and don't worry about what the judge is thinking about your playing becouse it will just make you more norvous just play

Well, my opinion is that first you practice your piece until you can memorize it. Arrive early but not too early, half an hour to 45 minutes would be ok and then do some warm-ups. When it's your turn, don't start straight away, take your time to relax and get ready yourself.
When you play, and if you are still shaking from nervousness, close your eyes while you play, this is where the memorization part comes in handy.
Practice the piece until you can play it without even thinking of which note comes next. And just play your hearts out.
By the way, banana does help.

hey, Wow thats pretty cool, i had no clue banana would work, and the toothpaste thing lol this is great. i dont have much experience when comes to auditions but for my tests always start with a long note.. play it until you dont hear the vibrations of nervousness. You can arrive early and go through your peaces, as long tones... it will be like a along worm up and it will not practise any errors. if before you practise an erro( ex. wrong note, held something for to long) when you will get to the audition it self, you will be scared at that bar and will probably make a mistake or it just wont sound right. To prevent this from happening, long tones is the way to go. It's boaring, but helps... alos, just do the bars with rythms or fingerings you have difficulty with. Do everything three times to make sure you got it... three times in a row with no mastakes (just the tuff bars that is)
hope it helps and sorry if it's long!
