Ther have always been myths about the best reeds for bass clarinet. Does it make a difference if you use tenor or bass clarinet reeds or is it which ever the player prefers is best?

Tenor sax and bass clarinet reeds are different, but you can get away with using tenor sax reeds on a bass clarinet in emergency. Presumably the reverse is true.
