Some saxophone advise from a recent Kenneth Tse...

Yes AIR SPEED is the upmost factor.

One time at a Kenneth Tse masterclass, this was quoted:

One thing that most saxphonists ommit to get that full and big tone is the toungue position which almost all the time controls the air speed for saxophone playing, much like how a brass player does it. High position for altissimo, and rational extension towards the lowest point of the mouth cavity for low notes. If you blow without anything(no instrument nor mouthpiece) and move your toungue through the long blow you will start to understand the concept.

A good exercise is to try that on the mouthpiece. When full control is possible get that to the instrument and try playing simple scales to experiment. But the basic is that the embouchure doesn't change. It must have enough cushioning of the lower lips, but the overall shape of the whole embouchure must resemble an 'o' shape. Not too extreme though. The secret here is to get the thought, not too much physical exertion.

Remember that articulation is a factor that usually prohibits the growth and ease of practise through students.
Bad syllables like 'Ta' 'Da' often prohibit open throat and relaxation so ommit that. Not too much mouthpiece too.
Remember that. Clarinets and Saxes are not as similar as they look. Judging both by how they are played and how they should sound like. This applies to the Baris.

Also, only hard work will be given its results.
Slowly you will be able to control well the dynamics of the lower notes if you can do this well. The saxophone is an incredible instrument when played well. Get yourself a handful of Milhaud pieces or other french composers on saxophone compositions on recording. You will hear for yourself.
