Why are used soprano saxophones so difficult to find to purchase?I dont want to spend the money that a new one costs.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Used Vito (Yanis) are about $1k - 1,400. You could net a new Antigua for about $700 - a very solid player.

Anything Yamaha, Selmer, etc you will pay big $$$ to get a used one. You could look at Cannonball.

There are other Taiwan horns out there that are cheap, some Chinese that are cheaper. but as the price goes down, normally so does the quality.

Soprano saxes are rare both new and used simply because there isn't much demand for them. There's only a limited number of pieces written that really NEED a soprano sax.

i play and own my soprano, and i have yet to find a soprano piece in the music i've been given to play in bands. since the demand to play them isn't high, why make a load of them. theres room for say 7 clarinets in a 60 person band, and theres 0 room for a soprano sax in that same band. you're local music dealer can order one in. but they aren't cheap like an alto or tenor. jupiter and vito are ok for a beginner runnign around 800-1000 dollars, but if you are going to specialize to that, spend the money and get a decent one, around 1500-2000 dollars. after that, if you want to go solo, like kenny G(sorry he's my only example that most people know), go for a Selmer Mark series. its Mark II i beleive that everyone wants. hope this helps.

I haven't played in a Concert band in 20+ yrs (eegads) .. but they are rare in that fashion for Concert bands. In local Adult Community bands though the parts do pop up from time to time. Friends of mine just double on them, but it isn't very often.

In Jazz though, it is very common. And yes, you can thank Kenny G for their "popularity". Alot of student players I've asked play them becz of KennyG.

Vito's are Yanigasawa's and are pro horns.
Of course, Selmer, Keilwerth, Yamaha, Yanigasawa are top-notch pro horns too.

The Antiguas have been used by many Pros that i know for backup or main horns (I also have one) and they are fabulous horns for the price of $650 for a 1 piece up to $1k for a 2 piece - Yani copies.
You can see them at www.kesslermusic.com

wwbw's horns are also nice though i've never tried them. Cannonballs are also apparently good www.cannonballmusic.com

Vito sopranos are *NOT* Yanagisawas. You're thinking of the baritones.

The reason you don't see a lot of used soprano saxophones for sale is the lower demand, but also the fact that you don't see a whole lot of any proffessional line instrument for sale compared to student horns. Until recently, there has not been much made as far as student oriented soprano saxophones.

actually I'd definitely say some Vito soprano's are Yanis, maybe not all but all that I have seen. Which happen to not be current production years, but definitely the older ones are.

And yes the Bari's are Yani's last that i knew.

Either way, we're trying to help Joseph figure out how to get a soprano.
