(When the time signature is in 4/4)
A whole note=4 counts
A half note=2 counts
A quarter note=1 count
An eighth note=1/2 count
A sixteenth note=1/4 count
These can vary when the time signature becomes a cut time or 6/8th time. Is this what you need?

are you taking lessons? its all memorization, and practice, so get different types of music, and play your lungs out. practice practice practice. lessons are also a great way to improve for everyone, from beginners to pros.
