I am a clarinet player in my second and there is a chair test coming up that is the b flat major scale in eighth notes. i know i should be able to play it really well already but i have trouble crossing to the high c from the a with out hesitating. any sugesstions?

one suggestion, as i am not a pro clarinet player:P ....................practice makes perfect:) once u get it down pat, it'll be perfectly fine!!...hope this helps.... ryan

hesitation comes with being uncomfortable with what you're doing, in this case you are uncomfortable with making the long C(all fingers down C). play the scale as many times as you think is necissary, and keep going and don't stop. start off slow, around a eighth note equals 60. and play the scale a few times. and gradually increase the speed. after doing this a few times, the notes come easier. if they don't, and nothinging getting better, then you maybe increasing the speed to quickly, slow down and try again. you can try slurring fifths or any interval. like an open G to the B. you can leave your right hand down, as this won't effect the tone significantly. and mix up notes. this will get you used to crossing the break(Bb to long B). hope this helps.
