 my keys are dull

what can i do to help the keys of my clarinet? the keys are copper plated i think. now they are starting, just a little bit, to turn pink. my keys used to be really shiny. i can remember sitting in band class just polishing my keys with my shirt when i should have been playing. now, after starting marching band in 9th grade, my keys barely shine at all. i do have a polishing cloth but it little if anything at all. what can i do to get my keys to shine again? the worst keys are the aflat, a, thumb or f, and the left hand first finger keys.

the pink is from the oils in your hand are oxidizing the metals on your keys. theres nothing major happening. there isn't a way of reversing that science has come up with to my knowledge, or there'd be no rust on my car. to help slow and prevent this on other keys, wipe down your keys with a cloth. any polishing agents would be insanely hard to get all off your instrument. the polish could get onto the reson, plastic, wood, whichever you have and then may not get off, or get stuck in a joint, which is never good. wipe down your instrument, not hard or you could take off your nice finish, and maybe just rub it to get off any dirt that maybe stuck on there. hope this helps.

You can't reverse it, but to slow it down take a SMALL amount of clear nail polish (or a matching shade of silver) and put a thin coat over the keys. Make sure you dont get any on the rest of the instrument!
