 very old piccolo

Hi guys
I recently have been given this piccolo (it's been handed down from generation to generation) which is about 200 - 250 yrs old, it has only 4 keys and is made of some sort of exotic looking wood (I don't know much about wood!). I've tried conventional flute fingerings, but they don't work at all. Can anyone help out with a fingering chart, or does anyone have any information at all about it, I can't seem to find any. I would really love to be able to play it, I'm a serious flautist studying a degree in music, can anyone please help me?
