Hi everyone everytime time i change my tenor sax reed and i put a new one on i cant play it hardly and it sounds absolutely crap and it makes it really hard to play anymore does anyone have any suggestions

most people have this problem its normal but something that my friend was told to do was to wet her reed then play a couple of scales on it and put it back in her case. she does this a couple of times before she uses them for class.
this is easier to do when you buy a box of reeds instead of a couple at a time. and make sure you have atleast two or three reeds ready to play on just in case your reed breaks right before a performance. hope this helps

What reeds do you use? and what size? this can totally determine your sound. How long have you been playing the tenor?

After 30 years I'm playing again! I have a 1913 Conn in excellent playable condition,Ralph Morgan 3C mouthpiece,dark and mellow, Would a Fibracell S reed be a good choice? Please help oh yes,I'm 83.

is the reed sufficiently moist when you put it in the ligature? Try a four minute soak in tapwater.

Make sure that the reed is considerably wet before using it. Also, you might want to consider switching to a lower number reed. This may help the sound to come out more easily. Hope this helps.
