The fingering is almost exactly the same. The sax requires a loose emboucher (however u spell it)biting down too hard on the sax will cause sqeeking. I played the alto sax from 5th to 8th grade then i switched to the tenor sax in 8th and this fall i will be going to 10th grade and i borrowed a school clarinet to teach myself and beleive me it came to me way easier than i thought. I learned the fingering in a week, honestly.I'm not really good but i can play all the scales and i can play 9th grade level music.Maybe it won't be as hard as u think......just a lot heavier.

the bass clarient and the tenor mouthpiece are generally the same. you should have no major troubles to adapt your embouchure. you might want to see a private instructor for a quick lesson on basic embouchure and fingering issues. the two instruments sound about the same. you'll notice to hit the low notes on the tenor has much greater difficulty then the bass clarinet. hope this helps.

My niece learnt the clarinet for two years. I showed her the fingering on the saxophone and she was able to play it within about 5 minutes. Get yourself a book on playing the sax and you'll pick it up in no time.

Dont get too attached to it. French horn players are better. You will find that out very soon.

- a very very devoted and good French Horn player.
