I found an old gemeinhardt Db picc and purchased it online years ago for only 75$. The only time I used it formally was in the second mvmt of shostakovich's 5th....when the melody crept up a beastly half-step, which included a high C# (as written for C picc.) Oh, and once when the C piccolo transposition was lost in a sousa-esqye march in a community wind ensemble. Not too flashy. But saved a headache.
(It was a peculiar little addition to make one's head swell that never actually received the ooohs and aahhs I thought it might.)
